ISRP Alum Vinay Bijoor ’18 Shares Research Experiences With Current ISRP Students
The Independent Science Research Program had the pleasure of welcoming back its first ISRP graduate, Vinay Bijoor ’18, on Thursday, Nov. 21. During his visit, Vinay described the various research projects he has been a part of since leaving the Hilltop, including analyzing soil samples from the ocean floor to understand climate change, simulating RNA folding, and utilizing medical imaging to predict patient outcomes.
Students found this non-linear path of research interesting, and, as one student put it, “it's important to remember that choosing to pursue one field is not set in concrete and that it is important to always stay curious.”
Another student thought, “it was fascinating how he made it a point to make his own non-traditional path in a place where it was standard to follow one where people aren't passionate about what they do.”
A second-year medical student, Vinay is also mentoring first-year medical students in research, as well as participating in research being completed at two different labs. It was inspiring to hear about all the work Vinay is part of, and we wish him the best of luck in medical school!
