Dr. David Berry ’96 Visits Hackley’s ISRP Students
On Friday, April 24 Hackley’s Independent Science Research Program had the honor of hosting Dr. David Berry ’96. Students were inspired by Dr. Berry’s many lessons from his time starting a business while completing his M.D./Ph.D., to finding a reproduceable method to create successful companies.
One student commented, “David Berry is one of the most inspirational guest speakers I’ve ever listened to. His ability to make the seemingly nebulous startup process scientific was really amazing. I also loved the way he walked through his life story and how open-minded he was about his various ventures.”
When asked about what advice he would give, Dr. Berry’s message of having detailed plans but being able to pivot quickly was one that resonated with our students.
Another student reflected, “I really liked his advice of holding firm plans loosely. You should always have a detailed plan at all times, but be open to that plan changing at a moment’s notice. You also shouldn’t be afraid to take strides toward changing that plan on your own instead of just letting other outside factors change the plan.”
Thank you to Dr. Berry for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit with our aspiring scientists, engineers and, quite possibly, future entrepreneurs!

All alumni/families with present or past experiences in scientific research have a standing invitation to visit the Independent Science Research Program. Our future scientists love hearing your stories, and these talks are formative to their careers. If you are interested, please reach out to Dr. Andrew Ying.
