The Lower School Art program encourages students to see the world with a new perspective through observation drawing and experimenting with new materials - all the while developing motor skills, art vocabulary and expressing themselves creatively.
Each grade level will explore various genres including drawing, painting, collage, sculpture and printing, and learn the basic principles of color theory. Some projects are curriculum based, in collaboration with other subject matter such as social studies or creative writing. Others are open-ended, allowing students freedom to explore new concepts and methods of their own design. A final art exhibit takes place at the end of the school year where every child K-4 will show one or more of their favorite works of the year.
