At Hackley, we believe our fields and courts are among our most important classrooms.
Students begin participating in team sports in the seventh grade as part of the Middle School physical education program. The Middle School experience provides students a new way to explore Hackley’s commitment to “unreserved effort,” teaching skills while emphasizing the value of teamwork, collaboration, mutual respect and sportsmanship.
In the Upper School, students have the option to participate in athletics at the JV and Varsity level during one, two, or three seasons each year. On average, 84% of Hackley Upper School students participate in at least one team sport.
Hackley coaches, many of whom are faculty members, bring a deep understanding of our students to the playing field.
Hackley coaches teach our student-athletes the life lessons of passion, respect, determination, hard work and sportsmanship that linger long after graduation. Our long-term goal is to see Hackley students carry these values throughout their lives.
Everyone involved in the athletics program possesses a unique opportunity to teach positive life skills. 65% of Hackley coaches are faculty or staff, facilitating a deeper understanding of each child and how best to tap into his or her full potential as a student and as an athlete.
