Hackley Lower School students begin language study in Lower School with the introduction of Spanish in the third grade.
Students come to enjoy learning and communicating in Spanish through a communicative approach to language learning that encourages natural language acquisition through listening, and speaking in a fully immersed environment. Students develop their language skills through a variety of activities such as interactive games, songs, conversational and situational dialogues and short readings and are exposed to real world and multimedia materials daily. They gain confidence in expressing themselves in Spanish, gain appreciation for the rich traditions and cultures in the Spanish-speaking world through art, music and poetry, and produce projects and presentations that comprise their summative learning.
