The music program at Hackley is an integral component of the Lower School experience, promoting appreciation for music as a discipline and as a vehicle for personal expression.
Students explore singing, rhythmic development, and creative movement and are taught to identify such musical elements as rhythm, pitch, melody, and harmony as well as the study of musical instruments, musical notation, and sight-reading. In the third and fourth grades, students learn to play either orchestral string instruments or the tone chimes/handbells. Further enrichment opportunities to the program include the Hack-Glee Club for third and fourth-grade singers, Elementary Ensemble for beginning string players, and the Lower School Orchestra for more advanced string players.
