Hackley Debate Teams Shine in December Middle and High School Tournaments
On Dec. 14, Hackley’s Middle and Upper School debate teams showcased their skills in two year-end events.
Middle School Debate Highlights:
Seventeen members of the MS debate team competed at a tournament hosted by Blind Brook. Representing Hackley were:
Fifth graders: Jun Yang W., Tucker L., Hudson S., Agron K., Julia F. and Theodore B.
Sixth graders: Ethan A., Leroy G. and Adam Y.
Seventh graders: Ryan L., Sophie P., Neil D-S., James C., Henry B. and George P.
Eighth graders: Rohan M. and Johannah H.
Highlights of the event included Ryan L. earning the distinction of Hackley’s top individual speaker and the team of Sophie P., Neil D-S. and James C. placing 4th in the varsity division. Additionally, several fifth graders achieved a major milestone by winning their first-ever debate rounds!
Upper School Tournament Highlights:
Hackley also hosted a high school tournament on the same day, with five teams participating in four rounds of debate. Notable achievements included:
Vivek Malik ’25, Ben Iaderosa ’26 and Shreyas Kuniyil ’27 earned a 4-0 record and came in 3rd place overall.
Sophomores Theo Anderson, Max Michael and Zack Reinmann concluded with an impressive 3-1 record.
Vivek Malik ’25 won his first-ever HSPDP golden gavel.
Additionally, Hackley came in 3rd place overall for highest winning percentage.
