Director of Human Resources
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for creating a work environment that supports the school’s mission and culture and its focus on the development and support of its most valued asset: its people. The Director of HR will plan, lead, and develop the relevant initiatives, policies, and activities, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the organization’s vision.
Reporting Structure:
This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and supervises the HR Generalist
Responsibilities:
Strategy setting
- Setting and achieving attainable goals and objectives
- Research, review and update all policies and procedures in compliance with all federal and statutory regulations
- Synthesize new innovative thoughts and ideas allowing them to think outside the box and find alternative solutions
- Provide critical and analytical reasoning when evaluating opportunities for change
Benefits Administration- Successfully manage and coordinate all benefit programs for employees, including all related employee communications, reporting changes, coordinating payroll deductions, billing, problem solving and claims resolution
- Manage employee retirement plans including employee enrollment, compliance reporting, audit, and tax filings
- Monitor employee eligibility for benefits plans and use benefits platforms
- Ensure all plans comply with applicable laws and statutes (HIPAA, ERISA and IRS guidelines)
- Manage annual Open Enrollment for all employee benefits (medical, dental and vision)
- Workforce Planning and Recruitment
- Manage recruitment lifecycle by posting jobs, ensuring employment applications and files are complete, conducting background checks, coordinating offer letters with the Head of School’s office, and coordinating on-boarding efforts
- Oversee off-boarding process for departing employees
- Conduct new hire orientations during new faculty trainings prior to the start of the academic year and throughout the year as needed
- Coordinate mandatory trainings for all new and current employees annually
- Update job descriptions and complete periodic job description audit and reclassify employees as appropriate under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
- Manage employee separation process for both voluntary and involuntary terminations
- Facilitate employee termination meetings and partner with managers for performance management
- Maintain employee files and applicant documentation in accordance with governing agencies
- Coordinate performance management process for administrators and staff
Compensation and Payroll- Participate in annual salary planning process for faculty, administrators and staff
- Ensure salary changes are processed accurately with payroll
- Complete DASL, EEO, compensation and benefit surveys
- Review and update payroll as needed
Employee Relations- Ensure compliance with Federal and NY state statutes/laws such as FMLA, ADA, Sexual Harassment, OSHA, Worker’s Compensation, Title VII, and ERISA
- Manage and track all employee disciplinary action. Counsel employees regarding disciplinary problems and provide mediation when necessary
- Process all unemployment notices and claims in a timely, efficient manner. Attend unemployment hearings when necessary.
- Maintain employee handbooks and makes policy recommendations to school leadership team
Qualifications
Skills and Abilities- Strong collaboration skills, open attitude, and strong ability to be flexible
- Demonstrated knowledge of employment laws, regulations and best practices
- Experience establishing relationships as a trusted advisor with the highest degree of integrity; exercises confidentiality and good judgment in complex and sensitive situations
- Flexible leader who can operate at a highly strategic level but can also perform all tactical related duties for the organization
- Proficient with Paycom
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in combination with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
- High level of organizational skills, detail oriented with time management skills that show a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to create actionable recommendations and solutions to problems or issues
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills to oversee a team
- Bilingual language skills a plus
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) required
- Minimum of 5 years prior experience in human resources
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this 12-month administrative position is $140,000 - $160,000.
