Athletes of the Week – Week of Jan. 13

Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.

Girls’ Basketball: Donia Karandikar ’25 
Donia has led her team in points the last two games in very tough contests against Poly Prep and Greenwich Academy she led the team in scoring in both those contests. 
 
Girls’ Squash: Jiya Dhakad ’26
Jiya had a great week on the courts. On Friday, she played in the No. 1 spot, winning a tight 3-2 match. On Monday, she had a 3-0 win over Rye, and on Wednesday, she had a 3-0 decision over Dalton. Jiya has been a major reason for the Hornets’ success this season and the undefeated league season the team has had thus far.
 
Indoor Track & Field: Jimmy Mulosmani ’25
Jimmy had an excellent night at the Armory during the Hornets’ second Ivy League meet. He achieved two personal records, throwing a 37’4” in the Shot Put and a 32’11” in the Weight Throw. Through his impressive commitment, Jimmy continues to be a valuable member of indoor track’s throwing squad this season.
 
Swimming: Kate Masters ’27
Kate was amazing in the three meets she swam in this week! In her events, she took 1st and 2nd place in individual races and was a key cog in 5 relay 1st. She is a major reason behind the team’s 5-0 success this season.   
 
Fencing: Joshua Lee ’25
At the Hornets’ annual Quad on Jan. 11, Joshua was undefeated going 7-0, winning his bouts 5-0, 5-0, 5-0, 5-1, 5-1, 5-0 and 5-1, and leading the boys’ foil team in victories over Horace Mann, Grace Church and Riverdale. Joshua leads the ISFL league with an 18-0 record, and he has led Hackley’s boys’ foil team to its current first place standing in the ISFL.
 
Fencing: Sarah Sichel-Outcalt ’28
At the Hornets’ annual Quad on Jan. 11, Sarah went undefeated going 5-0, winning her bouts 5-1, 5-1, 5-2, 5-3 and 5-3, and leading the girls’ foil team in victories against Grace Church and Horace Mann.
