Hackley Winter Athletics Teams Finish Season Strong

Congratulations to all our Winter Athletics teams, coaches and student-athletes on a fantastic season! The Hornets played their hearts out and throughout it all showed sportsmanship, collaboration and integrity. We couldn’t be prouder of all their efforts in both the regular season and championships!

The Hornets ended the season with a NYSAIS Team Championship for Girls’ Squash and three second place finishes for Girls’ Swimming, Boys’ Basketball and Wrestling. Hackley also had five league titles for Girls’ Squash, Boys’ Squash, Girls’ Swimming, Boys’ Foil and Boys’ Saber, along with Wrestling and Boys’ Basketball clinching second place. The Boys’ Squash team also snagged the National Title in Division 3.
 
Additionally, Hackley had several individual NYSAIS Champions:
  • Indoor Track and Field: Rafael Castro ’25;
  • Swimming: Lola Frey ’27 in the 50 Free and 200 Free, and Kate Masters ’27 in the 500 Free; and
  • Wrestling: Remy Becker ’25.
 
🥇 The Boys’ Varsity Squash team lived up to their No. 1 seed in Division 3 at the Squash Nationals, taking home the gold! The team also secured the Ivy Championship, going undefeated in the league, but suffered a tough 4-3 loss to Horace Mann in the NYSAIS semifinals.
 
⚫️ The Girls’ Varsity Squash team won the Ivy Championships and turned a No. 4 seed in the NYSAIS tournament into a championship with a 4-3 win over Spence School. In the Squash Nationals, the girls had a difficult draw in Division 2 and rallied on day three to an 11th place finish. Caroline Didden ’24 was ranked the No. 1 player (out of 150) in the NYC tri-state league as per U.S. Squash. She won all 20 games she competed in.

🏊‍♀️ The Girls’ Varsity Swim team had an undefeated season and smashed Hackley School records in championships. The team won the Ivy Swim Championship and placed second out of 21 schools in the NYSAIS Swim Championships.

  • Lola Frey ’27 snagged the NYSAIS record in the 50 Free. She also claimed gold in the 200 Free, silver in the 200 Medley Relay and bronze in the 400 Free Relay
  • Kate Masters ’27 also won gold in the 500 Free, as well as bronze in the 400 Free Relay
  • Kayce Park ’25, Ella Chen ’26, Heidi C. ’28 and Lola Frey ’27 earned silver in the 200 Medley Relay
  • Ella Chen ’26 won bronze in the 100 Breaststroke
  • Kate Masters ’27, Emma Curran ’27, Ella Chen ’26 and Lola Frey ’27 earned bronze in the 400 Free Relay

🏊‍♂️ The Boys’ Varsity Swim team had a great showing at Ivies, placing sixth overall and ninth out of 14 schools in the NYSAIS Swim Championships.
 
🏀 The Boys’ Varsity Basketball team went 12-2 in the league and earned the No. 2 seed in the NYSAIS B Championships. The boys played their hearts out but came up short in a 53-60 loss to Poly Prep. This was an amazing year for the team, who played the best basketball at the end of the season.
 
⛹🏻‍♀️ The Girls’ Varsity Basketball team went 8-4 in the league and earned the No. 6 seed in the NYSAIS B Championships. Their season ended with a 4-point loss to Fieldston in the semifinals of the NYSAIS Championships. 
 
🤺 The Boys’ Varsity Foil and Saber fencing teams took home the regular season league titles, with both teams going undefeated this season. They continued their dominance in the ISFL, with the foil team winning its fifth consecutive tournament title, and the saber team winning its fourth consecutive title.

👟 The Varsity Indoor Track and Field boys’ team placed fifth and the girls placed sixth in the Ivy Championships. The girls’ 4 x 200 meter relay team of Linda Ohia-Enyia ’25, Leah Hollingsworth ’27, Ashley Hollingsworth ’26 and Asahi Goods ’24 brought home an Ivy Championship, and Rafael Castro ’25 won the NYSAIS title in the 3200 meter, qualifying him for the Federation Indoor Championships on March 2.

The Varsity Wrestling team placed second overall in the Ivy League and took third overall in the championships. The team also placed second overall in the NYSAIS tournament. Remy Becker ’25 and Grant Berhalter ’24 were crowned Ivy League Champions, and Remy Becker ’25 was crowned the 160-lb. NYSAIS Champion. Additionally, Owen Lee ’26, Harper Kelsey ’24, Justin D’Alessio ’26 and Grant Berhalter ’24 all medaled and placed in the top three in their respective weight classes in the NYSAIS Championships.
