Athletes of the Week – Week of Sept. 16

Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.

Field Hockey: Bella Edwards ’25
Bella had an incredible game against rival Riverdale, recording 12 saves in a 3-1 win. Her only other goal in the last five games came in a back-and-forth game against Holy Child last week. Bella has allowed just four goals in five games this season.

Football: Grayer Hong ’27
Grayer had a great game against Hopkins last weekend. He went 12-19 in the air for 109 yards and three touchdowns.

Girls’ Soccer: Annika Duggan ’26
In her first year at the keeper position, Annika has recorded 17 saves in the last three contests. Most recently, she recorded her second shutout in a 2-0 win over rival Riverdale on Sept. 18.

Girls’ Tennis: Riya Monday ’27
In her first three matches as a singles player, Riya is 3-0 with three dominating victories. Her smart play, consistent effort, positive energy and laser focus have been key in getting her off to such a fast start!

Cross Country: Henry Prescott ’26

This first-year Cross Country runner came out of the gates in incredible fashion last weekend at the Warwick Wave Mania 5k. All summer, Henry put in the work, averaging between 30 to 40 miles of training per week. His hard work paid off on Saturday as he placed first for the Hornets and 21st overall in a field of some of the strongest runners in the area. Henry’s performance had an enormous impact on his team’s placing, helping the boys finish in tenth place of 18 teams.

Cross Country: Layan Sow ’27
Layan made quite the impact for her team last Saturday at the Warwick Wave Mania 5k. Though an accomplished track runner, last Saturday was her first 5k race. Not only did she compete for the varsity squad, she placed fifth for the team and contributed to Hackley’s fifth place team finish. The future looks very bright for this athlete and her squad.
