Athletes of the Week – Week of Oct. 14
Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.
Football: Sam Suniewick ’25
In the team’s 29-27 victory over Morristown Beard, Sam played exceptionally well at offensive tackle helping to lead the way to more than 250 yards rushing. On defense, he had seven tackles and the game-ending QB sack.
Boys’ Soccer: Tyler Mook ’25
Tyler played all 80 minutes in Wednesday’s senior game, scoring a goal from the position of defensive midfield and leading the team with his efforts. It was the best team goal of the season for the Hornets. Tyler has been a leader on and off the field this season.
Girls’ Soccer: Zion Bennet ’26
As a starter at center defender, Zion has been a defensive standout. She has a very difficult job at center back and leads the defensive unit. She made some incredible 1v1 stops in a tough 2-1 victory over Dalton, the top team in the Ivy League.
Field Hockey: Elizabeth Doherty ’25
Lizzie, a captain this year, has been an essential part of the Field Hockey team. She has played every minute of every game this season and has impact all over the field. On Wednesday, she played both defense and midfield in a hard-fought game versus King School. She adjusted to the level of play, reading the other team, and was key in defensive plays and transitions.
Cross Country: Peter Roberts ’25
Peter had an amazing race at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx on Sunday. At the Manhattan College Cross Country Invitational, he ran 15:32 for the 2.5-mile race. This is more than a 40-second personal record for Peter on this iconic course.
Girls’ Tennis: Francis Clifford ’25 and Farrah Goods ’28
The Hornets have gone 6-0 this season, including a (6-0, 6-0) win in the quarter finals of the Ivy League Championship Tournament. Both Francis and Farrah have been instrumental in the team’s success.
