Middle School Debate Team Kicks Off Season with Novice Scrimmage
On Oct. 19, 21 Middle School debaters attended the opening novice scrimmage at the Dalton School for our Middle School debate league.
Hackley's team included 12 enthusiastic fifth graders (Maxwell A., Julia F., Tucker L., Theodore B., Alice D., Marlowe H., Sophia J., Agron K., Maria Z., Yina Q., Hudson S. and Jun Yang W.), three dedicated sixth graders (Akash K., Oliver P. and Charlie R.), seventh grader Navika K., and five eighth graders (Ela G., James K., Aila R., Carter H. and Johannah H.).
Participants engaged in workshops and two rounds of practice debates on the topic, "Credit Cards Do More Harm Than Good." Additionally, four Hackley students — Upper Schoolers Shreyas Kuniyil, Nico Kim and Ben Iaderosa, along with sixth grader Michael C. — participated in a demonstration debate in front of more than 150 students.
With tremendous interest in debate this year, we look forward to seeing many of our debaters compete throughout the season. The next tournament will take place on Nov. 9.
