Hackley Debate Team Captain Wins Inaugural "Talk With Me: Debate to Deflect Hate" Competition

Hackley debaters uploaded almost 20 speeches on a variety of topics, and Vivek was chosen as a finalist to compete in a public debate in front of government officials and members of George Washington University, who sponsored the program. This prestigious event took place at the Council for Foreign Relations in Washington, D.C. on June 26.

Vivek showcased his exceptional debating skills by successfully defending the motion "social media is detrimental to national security." Competing in front of a live audience and a panel of distinguished judges, including members of the Department of Homeland Security, Vivek’s compelling arguments and forceful delivery secured him the win against a formidable opponent who had flown in from California.

In addition to the live audience, the event was also livestreamed to schools and institutions across the United States, allowing a broad audience to witness Vivek’s outstanding performance. It was a great way to end the year for our Hackley debaters!
