Associate Director, College Counseling
Hackley School seeks an experienced and enthusiastic full-time Associate Director of College Counseling. Reporting to the Director of College Counseling, this individual will be an integral member of Hackley’s College Counseling Team and the Hackley community. College Counseling at Hackley is a comprehensive program that supports students and families throughout every stage of the Upper School. Guiding them through a four-year curriculum, our individual work with students and families begins in earnest during junior year.
Reporting Structure:
This is a 12-month position reporting to the Director of College Counseling.
Specific Responsibilities:
The Associate Director’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing college counseling guidance to approximately 25-30% of each class.
- Meeting individually with 11th and 12th grade students and their families.
- Communicating regularly with counselees and families about the various stages in the college counseling process
- Contributing to and leading college curriculum
- Generating persuasive, individualized letters of support for each senior and working with the office to submit these and other credentials to colleges, universities, and scholarship programs
- Presenting to families and students on a variety of college admission topics, including financial aid
- Providing support to students in writing college essays and completing applications
- Helping to maintain working relationships with college admission professionals at colleges and universities throughout the United States and abroad by visiting college campuses each year
- Assisting with campus visits from college admissions representatives
- Working to ensure that college admissions officers have an accurate and up-to-date perception of Hackley
- Contributing to an atmosphere, attitude, and track record of continual program development and improvement in support of students and their families
- Supporting programming related to college counseling for families in grades 9-12
- Maintaining an appropriate level of engagement with ninth and tenth grade students and families so as to provide education and guidance as related to the school’s college counseling philosophy and ways in which to view the college process during these years.
- Providing guidance to academic advisors, students, and families about the course selection process as it pertains to college counseling
- Maintaining detailed and accurate records for counselees
- Keeping abreast of the rapidly changing college admissions landscape
- Contributing to educating students, faculty, colleagues and the Board of Trustees on all aspects of the college process.
- Offering guidance to students about appropriate summer enrichment opportunities
- Maintaining an active and engaged presence in professional organizations such as NACAC, ACCIS, College Board, and others to keep current with issues in the admission and counseling professions
- Performing other special projects and support as assigned by the Director of College Counseling
QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess: - Bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree preferred
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in college counseling and/or college admissions
- Knowledge of curriculum and trends as related to college admissions
- Eagerness to engage with students and their families to support them as they navigate the college application process
- Excellent administrative, communication, writing, and public speaking skills
- A proficiency with data analysis
- Competence with web and computer-based software systems such as Scoir, Google Suite, Excel.
- A flexible and patient collaborator with administrators, faculty, and staff
- Ability to bring joy, kindness, humor, maturity, and empathy to the school environment
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $130,000
