Athletic Trainer

The Hackley School seeks an Athletic Trainer for the 2025-2026 school year. This position is central to the overall athletic program of the school. The Athletic Trainer will have thorough knowledge of and abide by the requirements of the Board of Certification for athletic trainers  The Athletic Trainer will be fully supportive of the Hackley School athletic community.

This is a full-time,10 month position (from mid-August through mid June) with a varying weekly schedule to accommodate the varying demands of the school year sports calendar. 

Responsibilities:

The athletic trainer is responsible but not limited to the following…
  • Creating a positive environment where students, parents and coaches will feel comfortable and confident about all interactions.
  • Work collaboratively with the Athletic Director in improving the athletic departments physical athletic training and equipment program
  • Provide water and ice for all teams who request it on a daily basis
  • Maintain all medical kits for teams
  • Be prepared and available at least one hour prior to the start of practices and contests
  • Attend as many possible contests in a given day
  • Attend all away NYSAIS Tournament competitions if they do not conflict with home contests
  • Be available onsite for Saturday practices and contests that are within reason for rehabilitation and emergency needs.  
  • Attend all away football contests if they do not conflict with home contests
  • Provide basic instruction to athletic staff members in the prevention and care of athletic injuries including but not limited to conditioning programs and the selection, care and fitting of protective equipment
  • Refer athletic injuries to physicians for diagnosis and treatment as appropriate
  • Communicate and follow up with parents of injured athletes in a timely manner
  • Perform treatment as directed by the athlete’s physician
  • Develop and supervise appropriate rehabilitation programs for athletes under the direction of the athlete’s physician
  • Assess capability of a player’s continued participation in a game and/or practice if the player is injured.
  • Treat and supervise  treatment for all minor athletic injuries and conditions
  • Organize, manage and procure the inventory of all athletic training room supplies.
  • Manage and implement Concussion Management protocols including but not limited to: Baseline and post concussive SWAY testing, and post concussive returned to play progression.
  • Sports information posting of athletic contests as needed
  • Act as water safety instructor as needed
  • And other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director

Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years of athletic training experience in a school, collegiate or similar setting
  • Currently active certification and related continuing education requirements as set forth by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers
  • Currently active state licensure in accordance with the New York State Board of Education.
  • Current certification in CPR/Emergency Cardiac Care
  • Bachelors of Science degree in a related field
  • Sports performance experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate, effectively communicate, in addition to working independently when needed while always remaining professional

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this 10-month position is $68,000–$77,000.
