Athletes of the Week – Week of May 6
Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.
Girls’ Lacrosse: Zena Hume ’26
Zena let in a total of three goals in two games, with five scoreless quarters in those two games. She also had a total of 15 games over the course of the week and kept Poly to eight goals.
Boys’ Golf: Micah Jones ’26
Micah shot a career low of 40 against Hamden Hall on Thursday at Sleepy Hollow Country Club to win his match by six shots.
Softball: Andy Hegarty ’25
Andy batted .429 in the last four games, including a single, three doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs. In the circle, she collected 50 strikeouts in those games while surpassing the 700 career strikeout mark.
Girls’ Golf: Zoe S. ’28
Zoe won her match in the No. 2 positions against Horace Mann, 4 up. Her play has steadily improved over the season.
Track and Field: Emma Curran ’27
At the Joe Wynne Somers Lions Club Invitational, Emma ran a fast 800M time of 2:22 in both the Sprint Medley Relay and open event. On Tuesday, she ran 61.96 in the 400M race. As a freshman, Emma stands out as a leader thanks to her work ethic and enthusiasm for her teammates.
Boys’ Tennis: Leo Gutowski ’27 and Noah Meng ’27
This doubles team has gone 5-0 in the past two weeks at the No. 1 doubles position. Two ninth graders playing and winning at that position is a great accomplishment.
