Athletes of the Week – Week of Sept. 30

Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.

Girls’ Soccer: Gemma Lasky ’27
Gemma had a great week with five goals and one assist in Hackley’s last two games playing center midfield. On Sept. 28, Gemma scored a hat trick against Fieldston at their homecoming game. Gemma scored three of the Hornets’ four goals in what was a very competitive Ivy League game between the second and third place teams. The Hornets won the game 4-1, having previously tied 0-0 in their first meeting with Fieldston at the beginning of the season. On Sept. 30, in Hackley’s 8-1 victory over Avenues, Gemma scored two goals and had one assist.

Football: Will Belleville ’25
Will had a breakout game against a very good Pingry team two weeks ago. He had seven catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns in a 22-18 win.

Field Hockey: Emelia Pieri ’28
Emelia was an integral part of Hackley’s intense overtime game with Fieldston. She stepped up to defend in countless situations and played extremely tough, never backing down and showing no fear. Emelia has been a starter all year in her first year on the varsity team, and she has been a huge part of the Hornets’ successful opening to the season.

Cross Country: Kayla Menon ’27
Kayla had an amazing performance at the Bowdoin Invitational. Her time of 24:24 on this challenging course set a personal record for Kayla in the 5K, improving on her 2023 time by over six minutes. Kayla’s consistent training and steadfast effort are paying off as she was Hackley’s fifth varsity girls’ scorer and contributed to Hackley’s 13th place of 24 scoring teams in the race.

Cross Country: Sean Reardon ’25
Sean had a strong performance at the Bowdoin Invitational. His time of 19:47 on the 5K course was more than a 30-second improvement over last year’s time. Sean’s dedication to the team and summer training are paying off this season for the Hornets. He placed 4th for Hackley and helped the boys’ team to a 23rd place finish out of 33 full teams racing. Great job, Sean!
