Willie E. Teacher, Upper School Theater Teacher
When Willie E. Teacher joined the Hackley faculty in 2013, he brought with him more than 15 years of writing, directing, and performance experience in TV, stage and film.
He played classic roles in
King Lear,
Agamemnon,
The Winters’ Tale, performed in the
Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Walt Disney World, and was featured in HBO’s
Life Support opposite Queen Latifah and Anna Deavere Smith. In 2010 he was nominated for the AUDELCO - the only formally established award presented to the black theatre community.
As a Drama teacher and director, Mr. Teacher trains his students with a physical style of objective driven acting techniques, and he inspires his students to make bold character choices. He also serves as the Upper School Diversity Coordinator and an Upper School Admissions Officer for Hackley.
With an acting MFA from Brandeis University and a Communications BA from Temple University (Radio - TV - Film concentration), he is the former Director of Theatre at the Harlem School of the Arts. During summer 2015 he completed a Theatrical Directing course at Yale University.
Mr. Teacher is passionate about spending time and traveling with his wife and three kids.
