Hackley's Winter Athletics Teams Championships Update
Our Hackley Hornets have had some stellar week in their Championships bouts!
The Boys’ Varsity Swim team had a great showing at Ivies, placing sixth overall. The Girls’ Varsity Swim team smashed Hackley School records and had an outstanding day at the Ivy Swim Championships, coming away with the victory in a dominating effort.
The Varsity Wrestling team placed second overall in the NYSAIS tournament at Hackley. Remy Becker ’25 was crowned the 160-lb. champion. Owen Lee ’26, Harper Kelsey ’24, Justin D’Alessio ’26 and Grant Berhalter ’24 all medaled and placed in the top three in their respective weight classes.
The undefeated Ivy League champion Girls' Varsity Squash team took a No. 4 seed in the NYSAIS tournament and turned it into a championship with a 4-3 win over Spence School. (Click here for the bracket.) The match was tied at three before Skylar van Eck ’26 defeated her opponent in three straight games to seal the victory! This was a true team effort from all the players who played. The Boys' Varsity Squash team suffered a tough loss against Horace Mann in the NYSAIS semifinals. The team had a great season, going undefeated in the league. Both the boys’ and girls’ squash teams headed to the Squash Nationals in Philadelphia, with the boys at the No. 1 seed in Division 3 and the girls at the No. 3 Seed in Division 2.
On Varsity Fencing, the boys’ foil and saber teams took home the regular season league titles, with both teams going undefeated this season. Fencing Championships are taking place at Hackley on Saturday, Feb. 24.
The Varsity Indoor Track and Field boys' team placed fifth and the girls' team placed sixth in the Ivy Championships. The girls’ 4 x 200 meter relay team of Linda Ohia-Enyia ’25, Leah Hollingsworth ’27, Ashley Hollingsworth ’26 and Asahi Goods ’24 brought home an Ivy Championship, and Rafael Castro ’25 won the NYSAIS title in the 3200 meter, qualifying him for the Federation Indoor Championships on March 2.
Both the Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity Basketball teams received bids to play in the NYSAIS B Championship, with the boys at the No. 2 seed and the girls at the No. 6 seed. (Click here for the boys’ bracket and the girls’ bracket.) The boys went 12-2 and girls went 8-4 in the league. Both teams also had great victories this past week and advanced to the semifinals. The girls will play Fieldston and the boys face off against Stony Brook on Friday evening.
