I am studying how machine learning tools can be applied for the drug repurposing process of neurological disorders, specifically for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Field of study:  Machine Learning and Neuroscience

Why did you pursue this project?

During the summer of my 8th grade, I attended a course at Columbia University in which I studied the fundamentals of neuroscience. In this course, I learned much on the human brain and diseases that affect the brain, including Alzheimer’s Disease. Since then I have always felt that I should do my part in helping those affected by this disorder and help their families in the process. During the summer of my ninth grade, I took a course which explained how machine learning tools can be applied for medical purposes. I wanted to pursue this project because machine learning offers so much on helping to treat patients with Alzheimer’s and I want to continue this research in the future.

Tell us about yourself

I like to play games with friends and watch movies. I am also a part of different clubs in my school which include Lake Keepers, Black Student Union, and Classics Club. I am also a student ambassador, which means I lead tours and new student events for my school. I am also part of another program at Hackley called Submersible ROV Engineering, in which I built robots designed to go underwater to complete tasks.
